PROFILE

Jimmy Choong was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In 2001, he graduated with a Diploma in Fine Arts in Communication Design from the Center for Advanced Design (Cenfad) Malaysia. He started of as an offline editor, art director and storyboard artist before embarking on a full time career in producing and directing.

In 2007, he joined Astro Entertainment Sdn Bhd (AESB) as an on-air promo producer and director. He has produced and directed promo campaigns for a lot of signatures TV shows, such as Akademi Fantasia, Jangan Lupa Lirik, Sehati Berdansa and so on. He won a total of 19 awards for Astro in PromaxBDA World, PromaxBDA Asia and New York Festival Television & Film Award. Some of his key highlights during his stint in AESB were directing pilot TV programmes for Astro RIA as well as directing special projects for Astro Hitz Korea & Independent TV at Bangladesh.

In 2011, Jimmy decided to pursue his interest in feature film projects and commercials. He has directed a telemovie “Harapan” for RTM, and he was the co-director of a local Malaysia chinese feature film “Firefly”. Later on he started to direct various TV commercials such as Ah Huat White Coffee TVC, Ali Cafe TVC and so on.
